On the Ground
A grassroots initiative in Kampala combining hands-on craftsmanship, financial discipline, and emotional resilience to transform the lives of families โ one day, one skill, one saving at a time.
Overview
The Community Project is where theory meets action. Participants engage in three interconnected activities designed to build income, savings, and emotional strength โ giving families in Kampala a real foundation for a better future.
Participants produce beautifully crafted bags and baskets for major events and markets. These products attract donations and buyers, directly raising incomes for families โ with particular impact on school-going children whose school fees and needs are covered.
With consistent practice, both output quality and income have grown significantly over time, creating a sustainable craft-based livelihood.
Participants commit to saving between UGX 1,000 and UGX 5,000 every day. These small, consistent contributions accumulate into meaningful yearly savings that allow families to:
Financial growth alone is not enough. Participants receive training in:
We believe success grows from strong networks and good relationships โ and this training ensures participants have both.
Impact
The three pillars of the Community Project reinforce each other โ creating a cycle of sustainable development rather than dependency.
Weaving builds income. Savings training builds stability. Emotional wellness builds resilience. Together, they create lasting change that doesn't fade when the program ends.
Every element of the project is designed with the whole family in mind โ especially children, whose education and well-being are directly linked to their parents' stability.
Daily savings, increased craft output, and participant testimonials provide concrete, trackable evidence of growth โ both for families and for our partners and donors.
